Job Description
As a Farm Cow Caretaker, your primary responsibility is to ensure the health, comfort, and productivity of the cows on the farm. This role requires a combination of physical labour, animal husbandry skills, and genuine care for the well-being of livestock.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide cows with appropriate feed and clean water, monitor their intake, and adjust diets under supervision.
- Overseeing the health and behaviour of the cow herd, promptly addressing signs of illness or distress, and administering treatments as prescribed.
- Maintaining cleanliness in barns, milking parlours, and facilities to prevent disease spread.
- Assisting with milking routines, ensuring milk quality, and following sanitation procedures.
- Participating in breeding programs, assisting with artificial insemination, and maintaining accurate records.
- Managing pasture areas to prevent overgrazing and maintain herd health.
- Handling cows safely during procedures and minimising stress.
- Maintaining accurate records of herd health and production metrics.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with livestock, preferably dairy cows.
- Knowledge of basic animal husbandry practices and farm operations.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive tasks in various weather.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to follow safety protocols and adhere to animal welfare standards.
- Speak basic English to communicate with company and colleagues
