After completing the application, in-person biometrics and data-checking appointments can be booked at one of VFS Global's Visa Application Centers.
Know your visa type.
Before applying, please make sure you're clear on your visit. Please remember we are here to help and help you with the entire visa application process, but we are not allowed to advise or guide you on choosing a visa category. You can pick your visa type from the "Residence in Hungary" menu here: http://www.bmbah.hu/index.php?lang=en.
Who needs a residence permit?
All non-Hungarian citizens, except EU/EEA citizens, must have a residence permit if they wish to stay in Hungary for a period exceeding 90 days. For further information on residence permits, please visit the website of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing.
Where can I apply for a residence permit?
All long-term visa applications should be launched online at https://konzinfostart.mfa.gov.hu/#!/login.
The second step is filling in your application and uploading appendices.
You can find the list of documents for study and employment types at http://www.bmbah.hu/index.php?lang=en.
The third step is an in-person visit to VFS Global.
Long-term visa application is assessed and decided by the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing in 70 calendar days.
If you are an Emirati citizen or the citizen of another visa-exempt country, you can also apply in Hungary directly at the Directorate-General for Aliens Policing upon arrival.
How much is the fee for the residence permit application?
AED 418, which you can pay during your in-person visit. Please note that only card payment is accepted.
How do I get my residence permit?
So that you know, the Consulate will be notified of the decision. Please be advised that during the assessment, the Consulate will not answer any form of enquiry regarding the state or outcome of the procedure. If your application is approved, you must collect the residence permit in Budapest. We will affix a "type D" visa to your passport, which you can use to enter Hungary (and the Schengen area).
When applying, you are expected to:
- Fill in your application correctly and upload all necessary documents.
- Electronically book an appointment
- Present and hand over your paper application form duly filled and signed. The application form is free and can be downloaded from here after choosing your residence type in the "Residence in Hungary" chapter. The most common residence types are study and employment.
- Present a passport whose validity shall extend at least three months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the Schengen States or, in the case of several visits, after the last planned withdrawal date from the part of the Schengen states.
- Have a passport issued within the previous ten years, with two blank pages next to each other.
- Present two passport-size photos not older than six months. Please note that the photo must be a colour one; a headdress is permitted, provided all facial details are visible.
- Pay the residence permit handling fee.
- Provide all your supporting documents in the paper that was previously uploaded.
If your application is turned down, the decision of the Consular Section of the Embassy of Hungary in Abu Dhabi will be given in a standardised written form in which you will get information about why your application was rejected. If you received a decision you are not satisfied with, you can submit a written appeal no later than eight calendar days from the day you received the decision. The appeal procedure has a fee of 630 AED. The request must be presented in person at the Visa Section of the Embassy of Hungary in Abu Dhabi. Kindly note that an appointment booking is required.
So that you know, there is no exception to these rules.
The Hungarian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade assesses and decides the appeal 60 calendar days after submission. You may be requested to provide further supporting documents to the appeal procedure. Please be advised that during the assessment, Consular Section will not answer any form of enquiry regarding the state or outcome of the appeal procedure. Please note that the time of the appeal procedure cannot be reduced.
If your application is turned down in the appeal procedure again, please consider this decision. Petition for judicial review shall be submitted three calendar days from the day you received the decision in the appeal procedure. The petition shall be presented at the Visa Section in person or sent to the latter by registered courier. The petition is judged by the Metropolitan Administrative and Labor Court in Hungary 8 calendar days after the petition is registered with the court. The court has the competence to assess the legality of the visa procedure. Therefore, the petition shall be based on evidence that during the visa or appeal procedure, the respective authorities braked or failed to observe the law, or their decision was unfounded. The fees, of course, shall not be surrendered when submitting the petition. The court’s decision will also dispose of the costs.
