Berlin Airport Becomes the First of Its Kind in Europe to Offer Virtual Queuing Solution
The airport said that such an approach is being taken in order to resolve the queuing crisis and to prevent long waiting times, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
The virtual queuing programme, which has been named BER Runway and which is free of charge, will permit all passengers to plan ahead of their flight. Through this programme passengers can now reserve extra access to the security control at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport by selecting the desired time online three days before departure.
“You can now reserve extra access to the security controls at BER: The new service BER Runway is free and offered in BER_T1. Simply select the desired time online three days before departure and make your trip less stressful,” Berlin Brandenburg Airport wrote on its official Twitter account.
Commenting on the virtual programme, the managing director of operations at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Thomas Hoff Andersson, said that BER Runway offers passengers an attractive free service. In addition, he pointed out that the BER Runway allows the passengers to make their journey less stressful.
The Berlin Airport explains that the BER Runway allows passengers to go directly to security control on Terminal One using an extra entrance where the reservation, as well as the boarding card, are checked, thus, avoiding long waiting times.
Thanks to the provision of a new separate entrance, the airport said that it expects the waiting time at the security control to be around five to ten minutes.
In addition, the same explains that in order to be able to make a reservation, passengers need to provide their flight number and their email address.
Furthermore, the Berlin Brandenburg Airport advises everyone to reserve a time slot at least two hours before departure, and it points out that the last reservable time slots are one hour prior to departure for Schengen flights and one and a half hours for non-Schengen flights.
“We recommend that you reserve a time slot at least two hours before departure. The last reservable time slots are 1 hour prior to departure for Schengen flights and 1.5 hours for non-Schengen flights. Please make sure that you arrive at the airport early enough to allow sufficient time to check-in yourself and your baggage before making your way to BER Runway,” the statement of Berlin Brandenburg Airport reads.
The time slots at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport are valid ten minutes before and after the specified time. Passengers can continue to use all general entrances to security control even if they have a reservation for BER Runway or outside the booked time slot.
