Commission Launches EU Tourism Dashboard to Help Authorities and Tourist Destinations Guide Policies
According to the Commission, the new tool aims to improve access to indicators and statistics relevant to tourism, particularly by helping tourist destinations and public authorities monitor the progress they have made in the ecological and digital transition, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
“The EU Tourism Dashboard is an online knowledge tool developed by the European Commission, aimed at promoting and monitoring the green and digital transitions of the tourism ecosystem and factors of socio-economic resilience of the tourism ecosystem,” the statement of the Commission reads.
It has been noted that by using a series of consistent and evidence-based indicators, managers and policymakers will be able to recognise the vulnerabilities of the sector, such as the heavy reliance on come-only visitors of a few geographical origins, and to identify the main commercial advantages.
The Commission further explains that the Dashboard offers visualisation of data relevant to the tourism sector and indicators collected from trusted and available sources concerning the tourism ecosystem.
It has been highlighted that this will allow the profiling as well as the monitoring of the progress of the EU countries toward policy objectives.
Additionally, it has been explained that the indicators of the EU Tourism Dashboard are organised under the three below-listed policy pillars:
- Environmental impacts
- Digitalisation
- Socio-economic vulnerability
The Dashboard also offers a set of basic tourism descriptors to provide further context on the characteristics of tourism destinations in terms of demand, tourism offer, and supply.
The EU Tourism Dashboard has been developed with the support of the EU Commission’s Joint Research Centre, which will be responsible for maintaining the continuous development of the tool.
“The current, public version of the Dashboard is the result of a development and consultation process initiated in mid-2021, at the request of the EU Council,” the Commission added.
Additionally, it highlighted that the Member States of the EU and other international organisations contributed to the consultation. They will continue to be consulted on upcoming improvements to this tool.
The Dashboard will gradually be available in all official EU languages, and the initiative contributes to the Transitions Pathway for Tourism created in collaboration with public and private EU stakeholders.
