Denmark No Longer Recognises Extended Afghan National Passports
Such a measure means that nationals of Afghanistan in Denmark who hold this type of passport now need to obtain a new national passport as their current document is not sufficient, AtoZSerwisPlus reports.
The new national passport can be obtained by contacting the Afghan authorities, which are responsible for issuing passports for their nationals.
In addition to making this announcement, the Danish Immigration Service also shared the available options in Denmark to Afghan nationals for obtaining a convention or alien’s passport through the service.
Not Everyone Is Eligible to Obtain Denmark’s Convention or Alien’s Passport
The Danish Immigration Service explains that Afghan nationals in Denmark with a residence permit on other grounds than asylum are not entitled to get an alien’s passport.
According to the Immigration Service, in such cases, when Afghan nationals hold a residence permit, they can get an alien’s passport only if they are able to prove that they are not able to get an Afghan national passport.
As for Afghan nationals who are required to travel back to Afghanistan to obtain an Afghan national passport, the Immigration Service noted that they will generally refer this group of people to do so. This means that the pretext of having to travel back to Afghanistan to obtain a national passport will not be sufficient and will not make Afghans eligible for an alien’s passport.
On the other hand, as for Afghan nationals who hold a Danish residence permit on the grounds of asylum, the Immigration Service highlighted that they are entitled to a convention or alien’s passport.
As for the other groups of people who believe that they cannot return to Afghanistan to obtain the country’s national passport due to legal conditions, the Danish authorities said that they can apply for asylum.
