

EP Rapporteur for Kosovo: Visa Liberalisation to Be Voted in EU Council Before Year’s End

“The visa liberalisation process will be finished. We hope we will have a date when visa liberalisation will occur. I saw that this was for the first time on the agenda of the working group of the Council of the EU last Thursday. A clear decision has not yet been made; there will be another vote in mid-November or early December. Behind the scenes, we are working hard to see a positive decision,” she pointed out in this regard.
Recently it was reported that Kosovo’s visa liberalisation process would be discussed during the next meeting that will be held on November 9 and 10.
The announcement was made by Mimoza Kusari-Lila, head of the LVV Parliamentary Group.
Recently, it was reported that French authorities proposed that Kosovo’s visa liberalisation process be related to the operationalisation of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS).
According to a report provided previously by Radio Free Europe, such a new plan was made by authorities in France, and it was supported by at least four countries such as Spain, Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands.
The Czech Presidency of the EU emphasised that Kosovo has met all the requirements needed for the visa liberalisation process.
“On October 13, the Working Group for visas of the European Union Council held the first discussion on visa liberalisation for Kosovo under the Czech Presidency. The European Commission has introduced the updated technical report in this regard, which reconfirms that Kosovo continues to fulfil the criteria for visa liberalisation,” the Czech Presidency pointed out in this regard.
Recently, the Head of Mission of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX Kosovo), Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, said that the abolishment of visas for citizens of Kosovo is also supported by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
Back then, it was reported that Kosovo’s visa liberalisation process would be discussed on October 13 during the Working Group meeting of the European Council.
Kosovo’s visa liberalisation process began on February 19, 2012, but it has not been finished yet.
