Foreigners Now Able to Obtain Czechia’s Employee Card Under a Streamlined Procedure
As the Czech authorities have explained, so far, it has been mandatory for employers needing workers to undergo labour market testing to see whether they can hire workers from the EU/Schengen Area before giving the possibility to non-EU workers.
The labour market test took between ten and 30 days and only after this period was over non-EU nationals were eligible to apply for the jobs and obtain an Employee Card.
However, in line with the new rules that became effective on July 1, 2024, a labour market test is no longer required for employers as well as foreigners who want to apply for an available job and obtain an Employee Card, AtoZSerwisPlus reports.
By making such a change, Czechia wants to unify the rules and, at the same time, also speed up the process for non-EU citizens to reach the country for work purposes.
As CMS Law-Now explains, some other changes have also been made to the Employment Act.
Citizens of 9 Countries Now Enjoy Free Access to Czechia’s Labour Market
As part of its changes, Czechia has also decided to permit free access to its labour market for citizens of nine third countries.
According to the Ministry of Interior of Czechia, citizens of these countries enjoy free access to the labour market from July 1, 2024:
- Australia
- New Zealand
- US
- Canada
- UK
- Israel
- Japan
- South Korea
- Singapore
Citizens of the countries listed above who want to reach Czechia for employment purposes need to apply for a residence permit, such as an Employee Card, if they want to work in the country for a period longer than three months.
As for citizens of these ten countries who are already in the country, the Ministy explains that they also enjoy free access to the labour market even if their current permit is issued for a purpose other than employment.
In addition to the above-mentioned, another changes is the simplification of rules related to the posting of workers from another EU member country to Czechia.
The vacancy register will undergo some changes, too, with employers now being required to specify the type of work on the CZ-ISCO Class of Occupation when vacancies are placed.
