France’s Visa Rejections Cost Algerians Over €10 Million in 2024
Algerians Spent Over €46 Million on Schengen Visa Applications in 2024, France Took the Largest Share
Algerian nationals submitted 544,634 Schengen visa applications in 2024, spending approximately €46.2 million based on an average application fee of €85 following the June 2024 visa fee hike. Of these, 340,780 applications were approved, amounting to around €28.9 million, while 185,101 were rejected, costing €15.7 million.
France – Main Destination & Major Beneficiary of Visa Fees
France alone received 352,295 of these applications — 65% of all Algerian applications — rejecting 118,697 of them. In total, Algerians spent nearly €30 million on visa requests to France. With an approval rate of 64.8%, the cost of approved visas reached €19.4 million, while rejected ones totaled €10 million.
In 2024, France received over 3 million visa applications in total, generating €261.1 million in visa fees. Algerian applications accounted for 11.4% of France’s total, contributing a significant portion of the revenue.
Spain & Italy Also Attracted Thousands of Applications
Spain was the second most popular Schengen destination for Algerians, receiving 123,991 visa applications — 23% of the total submitted by Algerians. The total cost of these applications was around €10.5 million, with €6.3 million spent on approved visas (75,046) and €3.1 million on rejected ones (36,583).
Italy ranked third, receiving 25,418 applications. Algerians spent approximately €2.1 million on these — €1.3 million on 15,892 approved applications and the rest on rejected ones.
