French Embassy Warns Against EES and ETIAS Scams, Offers Guidance

The Embassy of France in Pakistan has warned that scammers are targeting individuals unfamiliar with the Entry/Exit System (EES) and European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) by asking for large sums of money to secure non-existent documents.

No Documents Can Be Issued Yet

Since neither the EES nor ETIAS is operational, no official documents can currently be issued. Even when the systems are fully functional, documents will only be available through official websites.

To avoid falling victim to scams and identity theft, the Embassy recommends avoiding fraudulent websites. The authorities assured that once the official implementation dates are set, all relevant information will be made public.

What Are the EES and ETIAS?

EES (Entry/Exit System): An automated IT system that will replace manual passport stamping, modernizing border controls. Non-EU nationals will need to register their biometric information, which will be stored for three years. Once registered, travelers only need verification until it’s time to update their data. Initially planned for November 2024, the EES launch has been delayed to 2025.
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System): A mandatory requirement for nationals of countries with visa-free access to the Schengen Area. It will be linked to the traveler’s passport, valid for three years or until passport expiration, and cost €7. ETIAS is expected to launch in 2026, after the EES.

Travelers are encouraged to stay informed and only rely on official channels for accurate information about these systems.
