The Icelandic government has announced that starting February 10, 2025, Schengen visa applications for Iceland can be submitted at VFS Global locations in Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa.

Visa Application Process

Once the applications are submitted at these locations, they will be sent to the Embassy of Iceland in Washington, DC for processing. After the decisions are made, the outcomes will be sent back to VFS Global for pickup by the applicants.

Impact on Foreign Residents in Canada

This new decision will simplify the process for foreign nationals residing in Canada who need a Schengen visa to travel to the Schengen Area.

However, Canadian passport holders will not be affected by this decision, as they are allowed visa-free entry for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period in the Schengen Area.

35,087 Schengen visa applications were submitted by Canadian residents in 2023.
Of these, 32,416 visas were approved, while 1,854 applications were rejected.
