Ireland Grants Citizenship to Over 6,000 New Citizens Amid Streamlined Processes
In 2024, Ireland made over 30,000 decisions on Irish citizenship applications, marking a significant increase from 2023, when 20,000 decisions were issued, according to the Department of Justice. On December 2 and 3, more than 6,000 individuals from 140 countries will be granted Irish citizenship in seven ceremonies presided over by Justice Paddy McMahon and retired President of the High Court, Mary Irvine. Justice Minister Helen McEntee congratulated the new citizens and their families, encouraging them to contribute to Ireland’s inclusive communities.
Modernized Processes to Accelerate Citizenship Applications
To improve efficiency, Ireland introduced several changes to its citizenship application process. Key updates include the launch of an online application platform, digital payments, and eVetting. These changes allow applicants to complete the process online, though a paper-based option remains for those without online access.
