Authorities in Norway are continuously dealing with a large number of asylum requests. Previously, sources in Norway revealed that for a period from January until August 2022, a total of 27,971 applications for asylum were filed in this country.
The figures provided by UDI revealed that the most significant number of asylum applications was filed in March, April, and August. The same noted that in March, authorities in Norway received 8,388 asylum applications; in April, there were recorded 7,672, while in August, there were registered 3,730 applications.

Following the increased number of applications filed for asylum, authorities in Norway previously unfolded plans to tighten rules for all persons who break the law. In this regard, the country’s government stressed that authorities in Norway would deport all foreign citizens who violate the law as well as those who hold refugee status in this country but who do not need protection in the country.
Regarding the issue, the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness previously submitted a proposal for consultation.
“The courts have dealt with several cases concerning the conditions for the deportation of refugees who have been punished for criminal offences. The issue has also been dealt with by UNE’s grand committee and the Civil Ombudsman. Today’s regulations have created uncertainty about the conditions for determining whether it is safe to return,” the Ministry’s statement noted.
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Norway authorities are also receiving many asylum requests filed by Ukrainian citizens.
Authorities in Norway previously said that the number of asylum applications filed by Ukrainians would reach 36,000 last year, while this year, there will be a total of 14,000 applications.
According to UDI figures, 25,000-30,000 Ukrainians will seek international protection in Norway this year.
