Slovakia: Croatia’s Entry Into Schengen Will Also Simplify Travel for Slovak Citizens
According to a recent press release issued by the Ministry of Interior of Slovakia, Croatia remains one of the most popular travel destinations for Slovaks and the same emphasised that they will now be able to reach the seaside country without border delays, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
“The extension of the Schengen area also brings advantages for the citizens of Slovakia, for whom Croatia is a popular holiday destination. Controls at Croatia’s border crossings with Hungary and Slovenia have been cancelled since January. Thus, the travel of tourists to this seaside country becomes significantly easier and without delays at the border,” the statement of the Slovak Ministry of Interior reads.
The Minister of Interior of Slovakia, Roman Mikulec, also commented on the matter, saying that Slovak citizens will be able to cross the above-mentioned border points without having to present travel documents.
Nonetheless, Minister Mikulec advised everyone to still keep their travel documents with them despite being able to cross the border freely.
“Croatia’s entry into the Schengen area means for the citizens of Slovakia that they will no longer have to undergo border checks and travel document checks if they cross the Croatian-Hungarian and Croatian-Slovenian borders, meaning that crossing the border will be free,” the statement of Minister Mikulec reads.
Minister Mikulec said that even though citizens of Slovakia do not need their travel documents when crossing the border from one European Union country to another, they still need to keep such documents with them in order to be able to prove their identity while abroad.
Croatia became an official member of the Schengen Area on January 1, 2023, and the country has also adopted the euro (€) as its currency, meaning that it has become a member of the Eurozone too.
The entry of Croatia into the Schengen Area has been congratulated by the Commission of the EU, which said that this is an important milestone in the history of Croatia.
Now that Croatia has become a member of the Schengen Area there will no longer be border controls. In addition, Croatia’s entry into Schengen Area also means that third-country nationals who have been issued a visa or residence permit from the Croatian authorities can move freely within the bloc without having to undergo border rules.
