Slovenia Opens Borders for Travellers from 17 Countries
The Slovenian government has decided to ease further the Coronavirus containment measures, taken earlier in March this year, by opening the borders for travellers from 17 countries.
The government has issued a decree, which is valid from June 8, and permits entry for the nationals of the following 17 countries considered as epidemiologically safe:
- Austria
- Bulgaria
- Cyprus
- Czech Republic
- Estonia
- Finland
- Germany
- Greece
- Hungary
- Iceland
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Liechtenstein
- Norway
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Switzerland
Citizens of Austria, Hungary and Slovenia, will be eligible to cross the borders outside of checkpoints. Slovenian citizens coming from any of the EU or the Schengen Member States may also cross the border outside the checkpoints.
In addition, a category of Slovenians and Italians is also permitted to cross the borders outside the control points.
“Citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and Italian citizens who are two owners or tenants of land in the border area or have their own land on both sides of the state border and perform agricultural-forestry work may cross the state border outside the control points on the border with Italy. Checkpoints remain unchanged,” reads a press release of the Ministry of the Interior explaining the decree.
Those persons coming from the countries that are not under the list above, despite having citizenship of any of the 17, must go through 14 days of quarantine upon arrival in Slovenia.
In addition, due to the deteriorating epidemiological situation in Northern Macedonia, all persons entering Slovenia from Northern Macedonia are obliged to go under a 14-day quarantine, regardless of citizenship or residence.
Exempt from the quarantine requirement are only the following:
- Those providing services for which a certificate has been issued by the competent ministry, and the failure to provide these services could result in major social or economic damage as a result of the quarantine order;
- Those crossing the border for urgent personal matters and returning across the border within 24 hours of entry and providing appropriate proof, and
- A person who is am owner or tenant of land in the border area or on both sides of the state border and crosses the state border for the purpose of performing agricultural or forestry works.
However, an exemption for persons with confirmed overnight reservation is no longer valid.
Despite the decree, if the situation deteriorates in any of these 17 countries, the government of Slovenia may remove that particular country from the list of countries the nationals of which are eligible to enter Slovenia.
