Top Schengen Countries Granting Visas to Turkish Citizens in 2024
Schengen Countries That Approved the Most Visas for Turkish Citizens in 2024
In 2024, nationals of Türkiye submitted over 1.1 million Schengen visa applications, making them the second-largest group of applicants for short-term visas to Europe. Historically, Greece and Germany have consistently been among the most popular destinations for Turkish travelers—and this trend continued in 2024. However, when analyzing visa approval rates, several other countries emerged as more favorable for Turkish applicants.
Top Countries by Number of Visa Applications From Turkish Citizens
Out of the total 1.1 million applications, the majority were submitted to five key countries:
- Greece: 296,377 applications (25.24%)
- Germany: 215,506 applications (18.36%)
- France: 151,640 applications (12.92%)
- Italy: 117,432 applications (10.00%)
- Netherlands: 97,006 applications (8.26%)
These countries were also the top issuers of Schengen visas to Turkish citizens:
- Greece: 264,312 visas issued
- Germany: 170,260 visas issued
- France: 129,947 visas issued
- Italy: 106,193 visas issued
- Netherlands: 84,240 visas issued
Countries With the Highest Visa Approval Rates for Turkish Applicants
While the above countries received the most applications, some smaller Schengen countries had exceptionally high approval rates, making them favorable destinations for Turkish applicants:
- Romania: 15,458 applications, 14,764 approved – 95.51% approval rate
- Slovakia: 2,941 applications, 2,744 approved – 93.30% approval rate
- Portugal: 2,163 applications, 1,975 approved – 91.30% approval rate
These countries demonstrated a strong willingness to approve visa applications from Turkish nationals, offering a higher success rate compared to larger EU destinations.
Countries With the Highest Rejection Rates for Turkish Citizens in 2024
Some countries, however, had significantly higher visa rejection rates, making them more challenging for Turkish applicants:
- Denmark: Rejected 3,664 of 10,561 applications – 34.70% rejection rate
- Lithuania: Rejected 960 of 3,044 applications – 31.52% rejection rate
- Estonia: Rejected 600 of 2,006 applications – 29.91% rejection rate
- Sweden: Rejected 5,422 of 18,160 applications – 29.86% rejection rate
- Croatia: Rejected 1,315 of 4,655 applications – 28.25% rejection rate
These figures show that applicants from Türkiye had lower chances of success when applying through certain northern and Baltic Schengen countries.
