

Tourism in Slovenia Marks a Successful Start of the Season With 2 Million Overnight Stays Recorded in June Alone
According to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the majority of tourists were international arrivals, representing 55.8 per cent or 444,000 arrivals spending 1.1 million overnight stays, with the latter increasing by a quarter compared to the same month in 2021, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
Furthermore, a total of 351,000 domestic tourists with 879,000 nights spent in Slovenia were recorded in the first month of summer.
As per the countries of origin, the largest number of these tourists came from Germany, making up for 272,900 overnight stays, while foreign tourists generated 56 per cent of all nights spent in the country.
The second country of origin for tourists was Austria representing nine per cent of the total overnight stays or 102,700, followed by Italy (six per cent), Hungary, and the Czech Republic, which represented five per cent of all nights spent in Slovenia, individually.
Mountain resorts were a popular destination for tourists who spent most of their nights in such resorts – 632,300 overnight stays or 32 per cent of the total recorded in June. The second most-sought destinations were seaside resorts, accounting for 22 per cent or 432,100 overnight stays recorded, while health and spa resorts represented 18 per cent of the total nights spent.
In addition, about ten per cent of all overnight stays were recorded in the capital – Ljubljana, while other municipalities represented 12 per cent of the total, with six per cent of the nights spent being registered at urban municipalities.
“Tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays in hotels (almost 738,700 or 37 per cent of all overnight stays), followed by private accommodations – rented rooms, dwellings (24 per cent) and camping sites (18 per cent),” the Slovenian Statistical Office reveals.
During the first half of the year, nearly 2.3 million tourists visited Slovenia, who spent slightly more than six million overnight stays – about 4.3 million more than in the corresponding time last year. The largest number of overnight stays were recorded in Ljubljana (729,400), Piran (703,300), Kranjska Gora (402,700), and Bled (325,300).
In addition, domestic tourists spent 2.8 million nights, or 47 per cent of all overnight stays for January until June, while foreign tourists recorded 3.2 million or 53 per cent of the total nights spent in Slovenia for the first half of the year. Domestic tourists generated most of their overnight stays in the municipality of Piran, and foreigners, in general, leaned towards Ljubljana.
