Copenhagen Airport Welcomed Almost 8 Million Passengers in Three Summer Months
According to the data provided by the airport, only in August, 2.6 million passengers passed through its terminals, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
The same source also revealed that this figure represents an increase of 14 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Spanish destinations ranked first among Southern Europe’s five most sought-after destinations, welcoming around 700,000 passengers. Spain was also followed by France, Italy, Greece, and Turkiye. Meanwhile, the most popular Spanish destinations include Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Barcelona.
In terms of the increase in the number of passengers, France secured the first place, marking a year-on-year increase of 44 per cent. Nearly 455,000 passengers travelled from Copenhagen to various French airports during the three summer months.
Further, CPH figures revealed that charter flights this summer accounted for just over five per cent of the airport’s total air traffic. The Greek island of Crete led this category, attracting 90,000 passengers, closely followed by Rhodes and Cyprus.
Previously, Krogsgaard said that during the busiest days in July, Copenhagen Airport accommodated over 100,000 passengers.
Even in May 2023, CPH experienced an increase in passenger traffic, as it welcomed a total of 2.4 million passengers and achieved an outstanding one-day record of 96,000 passengers.
Moreover, the desire to explore and travel continues well into autumn, with October traditionally being a popular choice for travellers.
Anticipating this trend, Krogsgaard said the airport expects a continued increase in passenger numbers compared to last year throughout the autumn season. As he explains, even at this early stage, the airport will experience many high-traffic days this autumn, potentially reaching up to 95,000 passengers per day.
In July this year, the Clean Cities Campaign (CCC) analysis ranked Copenhagen as the most environmentally friendly transport city.
Based on this analysis, Copenhagen is recognised as a leader in environmentally friendly transportation infrastructure. The city is also known for its sustainable urban transport initiatives, prioritising cycling, walking, and public transport, earning it recognition as a leading city.
