

Most Punctual European Airports and Airlines That You Can Count on This Summer
According to OAG, the global travel data provider, Eurowings ranks as the best airline in terms of punctuality in 2022, up from the ninth position it held in 2019. In addition, the airline has improved its on-time performance, increasing it from 80.20 per cent in 2019 to 95.26 per cent in 2022, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
The second and third most punctual airlines in Europe were Iberia and Air Europe with punctuality rates of 84.06 and 79.30 per cent, respectively, while cancellation rates are considerably lower for these two airlines than Eurowings.
More specifically, first-ranked Eurowings had a cancellation rate of 3.60 per cent in 2022 while Iberia recorded the lowest cancellation rate – 0.03 per cent.
Ten Most Punctual European Airlines by OAG
The top ten list of airlines that scored the highest for on-time performance includes Austrian Airlines AG dba Austria (81.05 per cent), ITA Airways (79.59 per cent), Norwegian Air Shuttle (79.12 per cent), Finnair (77.36 per cent), Pegasus Airlines (75.07 per cent), LOT- Polish Airlines (74.75 per cent) and KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines (78.57 per cent).
The average OTP for this group of carriers is 80.62 per cent, which was down from an average of 83.0 per cent in 2019, and the average cancellation rate is 1.06 per cent, while Eurowings (EW), the most punctual airline for this year, has the highest cancellation rate at 3.62 per cent.
In general, the European most punctual airline is listed third globally, falling behind Safair (95.30 per cent), while Garuda Indonesia has an on-time performance of 95.63 per cent, climbing the first spot after being ranked second in 2019.
On-Time Performance Low Among European Airports, Japanese Excelled Instead
However, the punctuality rates were considerably down for European airports, as none of those made it even in the top twenty list on an international level, as those from Japan excelled.
As per most punctual airports at international levels, Japanese airports top the list with all four best spots being earned by these airports: Osaka (91.45 per cent on-time performance), Matsytama (91.44 per cent), Miyazaki (91.34 per cent) and Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport (90.78 per cent).
OAG data show that Stuttgart Airport was ranked first for on-time performance, with a punctuality rate of 84.20 per cent, followed by Dublin Airport (82.69 per cent) and Malta (82.69 per cent).
Three Norwegian airports, Trondheim (TRD), Stavanger (SVG) and Bergen (BGO), all report OTP of 79 per cent, being ranked fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. The other three airports, from eighth to tenth place, also recorded an OTP of 79 per cent with just very slight differences in the decimal places.
As per cancellation rates, the highest was recorded at Bergen (BGO) with a 3.24 per cent cancellation rate, followed by Stavanger (3.19 per cent) and Trondheim Vaernes Airport (2.75 per cent), while Stuttgart Airport, as being the most punctual European airport had a cancellation rate of 2.45 per cent.
