154,102 Illegal Immigrants Have Entered Greece Since Beginning of 2022

“In 2022, a very significant number of arrests of illegal immigrants have been made throughout the territory and especially in the Attica basin where in special police operations that have been carried out mainly since March, 3881 arrests have been made which led to approximately 2500 arrests of illegal immigrants who were in the Athena,” the Minister Theodorikakos pointed out in this regard.
He also noted that the government is implementing the strengthening of the border guard with 250 recruits.
Since May, around 234 people, illegal immigrants, have been rescued by the Greek Police forces in Evros.
“I believe that we all owe it to this particular issue to be united because the latest events in Evros have clearly shown it, it is nationally damaging, at a time when the rescued migrants themselves have complained at an international level Türkiye with what they said and mainly with the fact that they recognized and described that they moved from the Turkish side,” the Minister said.
According to him, “the brutal instrumentalization of people from Türkiye and smugglers cannot be accepted”. At the same time, Minister Theodorikakos warned what he called “every unscrupulous modern slaver” who does not hesitate to do this unprecedented and illegal business in strange and suspicious ways both on land and at sea.
He also added that this is also a message of national determination against the government that instrumentalizes the immigration problem.
