Czechia Does Not Recognise New Vietnamese Passports
Such a decision has been confirmed through a statement published by the Czech Embassy in Vietnam, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
“Vietnam’s new passport issued on July 1 does not meet the technical standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Therefore, the Czech Republic agrees with other member countries of the European Union (EU) to stop recognising it,” the Czech Embassy pointed out in this regard.
According to the announcement, the decision will take effect from the time of the notification, but it did not specify the technical standards as prescribed by the ICAO that the new Vietnamese passport has not yet met.
Besides, it is still unclear whether the Czech Republic will stop issuing visas for holders of the new Vietnamese passports.
Based on the guideline of ICAO on passport standards, the required information on passports includes passport type, name, passport number, nationality, date of birth, as well as gender and expiration date, while clarifying that other information such as place of birth depends on the country issuing it.
Besides the Czech Republic, authorities in Spain also announced that they will not accept Schengen visa applications from citizens of Vietnam who hold new passports until further notice.
The announcement was confirmed by the Embassy of Spain in Vietnam while stressing that the new changes took effect on August 1.
Authorities in Germany also announced that they would not approve visas for citizens of Vietnam who hold new passports. According to the announcement of the Embassy of Vietnam in Germany, all persons who hold Vietnam’s passport with a dark blue cover instead of the green one will not be eligible to apply for a C or D visa in Germany.
However, other European countries such as the United Kingdom and France have confirmed that they will accept the new Vietnam passports.
In addition, the French Embassy in Vietnam also announced that it is issuing Schengen visas normally for the holders of these passports.
The United Kingdom also announced that it recognises the new passport of Vietnam.
In this regard, the British Embassy in Hanoi announced that the country continues to recognise the new passports of Vietnam but with a note that visa applicants, as well as visitors, need to make sure to update and regularly check information on passport regulations for all other destinations in their itinerary.
