France Launches Automated Visa Appointment System in Major Moroccan Cities
France Introduces Automated Visa Appointment System in Morocco to Combat Fraud
TLScontact, the visa services provider managing Schengen visa applications for France in Morocco, has rolled out a fully automated appointment system in the country’s main cities. This move aims to curb widespread appointment fraud and make the visa process more secure and efficient for Moroccan applicants.
Combatting Fraudulent Intermediaries
The automation was introduced after it was discovered that intermediaries were exploiting technological tools, including bots, to capture appointment slots and resell them at inflated prices. The new system ensures that appointments are confirmed only after payment of service fees, preventing slots from being hoarded and sold to unsuspecting applicants.
According to TLScontact, this change particularly benefits first-time applicants, who are often the most vulnerable to such scams due to limited experience with the Schengen visa application process.
Expanded Rollout Across Morocco
The pilot program launched in Rabat showed impressive results. Within just four weeks, bot activity was reduced by 48%, and a 12% drop in fraudulent activity was noted in the very first week of implementation. Since the launch, over 15,000 appointments have been securely booked in Rabat alone.
Encouraged by the success, TLScontact expanded the system to four more cities:
- Fez
- Oujda
- Tangier (February rollout)
- Casablanca (March rollout)
Visa Demand in Morocco Remains High
According to data from AtoZSerwisPlus, France remains one of the top destinations for Schengen visa applicants in Morocco. In 2023:
- Rabat consulate received 164,998 applications
- Casablanca received 89,844 applications
- Oran (operating for Algerians, included for context) handled 73,215 applications
Improved Transparency and Fairness
The new measures are designed not only to prevent fraud but also to enhance transparency and ensure that legitimate applicants have fair access to visa appointments. By tying appointment confirmation to payment validation, TLScontact ensures that each slot is allocated to a genuine applicant, reducing black-market activity.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by French consular authorities to modernize visa processing in regions with high demand and repeated reports of fraud.
