Germany to Expand Long-Validity Schengen Visas for Turkish Applicants
Germany to Expand Long-Term Schengen Visas for Turkish Nationals Under “Cascade” Regime
Germany will increasingly implement the “cascade” visa regime for Turkish nationals, allowing applicants with a strong travel history and prior visa compliance to obtain multi-entry Schengen visas with longer validity, according to German Consul General in İzmir, Ralf Schröer.
Speaking at a seminar at Yaşar University in İzmir, Schröer explained that under this regime, applicants who have previously used their visas lawfully and met all conditions may qualify for extended visa validity, easing repeat travel.
?? Priority for Turkish Businesspeople and Students
Schröer noted that, in line with an agreement between the Turkish government and the EU, priority in visa issuance is given to businesspeople and students, who benefit from faster processing times.
“According to the agreement we reached with the Turkish government, priority in visa issuance is given to businesspeople and students. Unfortunately, applicants under the visitor and tourist categories may have to wait several months due to high demand,” said Schröer.
Meanwhile, tourist and visitor visa applicants may face long waiting periods, especially during peak demand seasons.
? Visa Denial Allegations Rejected
The Consul General also dismissed claims that Schengen member states are intentionally denying visas to Turkish citizens. He emphasized that Germany continues to issue a high number of visas to Turkish applicants.
“Germany grants a large number of visas to Turkish nationals,” Schröer affirmed.
⚠️ Applicants Advised to Avoid Intermediaries
Schröer further warned Turkish applicants against using commercial visa consultants, saying their involvement does not speed up the process and may, in fact, slow it down.
“The involvement of commercial visa consultants neither improves nor expedites your application. On the contrary, it may even slow down the process,” he cautioned.
? Turkish Schengen Visa Application Trends in 2024

- Germany alone received 215,506 applications, issuing 17,260 visas to Turkish citizens.
