Definition
For 2021, Poland has revised its minimum wage standards. The new standards for salaries take effect on 1 January 2021. For local employers and civil contract employees, minimum wage levels would rise.
What are the revisions?
The changes only apply to workers working locally. There are separate minimum wage thresholds on EU Blue Cards and Intracompany Transfer (ICT) permits.
The minimum wage for local hires will grow to PLN 2,800 gross monthly, an increase of 7.7 percent from the minimum wage of PLN 2,600 gross monthly in 2020. The minimum wage for civil contract employees will be raised from PLN 17 gross per hour to PLN 18.3 gross per hour. From 2020, this is a 7.6 percent raise.
Regardless of the group, foreign workers must have ample funds during their stay in Poland to support themselves and any dependants.
What are employers and candidates expected to know?
Both permit holders are affected by the new minimum wage standards. On January 1, 2021, existing authorization holders must have their minimum wage changed to conform to the upcoming criteria. As of January 1, 2021, pending and current applications must also comply with the new minimum wage requirements.
Employers should remember that allowances and benefits are not included for local employees in minimum wage estimates. It is important to pay workers in PLN, and they must be on the local payroll.
